The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit national environmental advocacy organization with more than 1.2 million members and online activists. We have offices in New York, Washington, D.C., San Francisco and Los Angeles. Our staff of over 275 includes attorneys, scientists, policy analysts and educators working to protect the environment and public health through advocacy and education.
Position Summary:
NRDC seeks a Development Assistant to work with the Foundation Relations Department in the New York office. The assistant will provide administrative support to the air and energy program and the facilities department. The successful candidate must be able to balance work for several projects and must have strong communication, administrative, and writing skills.
Essential Functions:
* Proofreading proposals, reports and correspondence.
* Drafting donor correspondence and grant acknowledgement letters.
* Processing grants paperwork.
* Maintaining PledgeMaker database.
* Mail merging documents from various sources and getting out large mailings.
* Providing general administrative support for the Director of Foundation Relations, Associate Director and the Foundation Relations Department.
* Handling staff travel arrangements and expense reconciliations.
* Scheduling and facilitation of various staff, Board of Trustees meetings and donor lunches and breakfasts.
* Scheduling and setting up conference calls and videoconferences.
* Maintaining files and managing incoming phone calls.
* Copying and distributing documents.
Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
* Proficient in Office 2000, including WORD, Excel and Access.
* Ability to operate VCR, slides and projector machinery.
* Good written and oral communication skills; ability to work well with different people, organize a number of tasks, set priorities, and pay meticulous attention to detail.
* Ability to work accurately and with composure under deadline pressure; willingness to be available for occasional overtime work.
* Self-directed, with the ability to prioritize and simultaneously work on multiple projects.
* Excellent knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, the Internet, and electronic communication; prior office experience required.
* Knowledge of PledgeMaker database a plus.
* Interest in environmental issues a plus.
