The Center for a New American Dream helps Americans consume responsibly to protect the environment, enhance quality of life and promote social justice. We work with individuals, institutions, communities and businesses to conserve natural resources, counter the commercialization of our culture and promote positive changes in the way goods are produced and consumed. 

Timeframe: This is a full-time, one-year position beginning in the first quarter of 2007. A full workweek at New American Dream is 32 hours as we only work Monday - Thursday. 

Compensation: Fellows working 32 hours per week are paid $1,250 per month and receive medical insurance, four weeks paid vacation, and reimbursements for commuting via public transportation. 

Description: The outreach fellowship offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to work closely with accomplished outreach professionals in a highly successful national non-profit with more than one hundred thousand activists, members and supporters across North America.

The outreach fellow's responsibilities include: 

* Lobbying to convince state and federal government officials to adopt a Do Not Junk registry modeled after the widely popular Do Not Call registry ;
* Coordinating Junk Mail Action Week activities around the country with the purpose of helping people remove themselves from lists; 
* Assisting in the researching, developing, and launching of a new climate change campaign and renew our efforts to attract partners for ourTurn the Tide program
* Mentoring and developing our base of activists into stronger local organizers who are more engaged, more knowledgeable, and ultimately more effective grassroots organizers within their local communities; 
* Growing our online New Dream Community into a larger, more connected, and more involved base of activists who are interested in promoting the New Dream vision in their lives and community through a variety of research, writing and online organizing; 
* Promote New American Dream values and campaigns by speaking with the public at various local events; 
* Corresponding with members and the public regarding our various national and local New Dream campaigns
* Working with our National Outreach Director and Grassroots Coordinator & Community Liaison as needed while helping with general administrative work (approximately 25% of time) and other tasks as requested. 

The ideal candidate will be a good writer with excellent communications and motivational skills who is detail-oriented and capable of taking initiative on specific projects (especially the responsibilities outlined above). Successful applicants will also have a sense of humor and subscribe to our philosophy of "more fun, less stuff." Applicants who have an interest or experience with grassroots organizing are preferred. Political or policy experiences a plus.
