Project Director, Clean Energy

Clean Energy Group (CEG), a leading nonprofit advocacy organization working domestically and internationally on innovative technology, finance, and policy programs in the areas of clean energy and climate change, seeks a Project Director. This position will craft and advocate for policies, strategies and initiatives to advance new markets for clean energy technologies at the international, national and state levels.

The successful candidate will possess strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and will have a successful track record as a proven strategic planner and project manager of long term programs. Knowledge of clean energy issues, including experience in researching, developing and implementing strategies that involve economic and market-based solutions to clean energy challenges, is preferred; work in finance related initiatives is a plus. 

Responsibilities: 

* develop and implement projects and initiatives to assist state players, both in the public and private sector, to advance new markets for clean energy technologies
* implement key clean energy program activities
* assure coordination of, and providing guidance to, state clean energy programs, particularly in the areas of energy finance, policy and technology
* provide education and sound, unbiased information to key public and private players about clean energy market opportunities and obstacles
* convene and collaborate with public and private players to build new public and private finance networks and partnerships in the clean energy area
* provide strategic advise, including bringing the best academic thinking and business experience to bear on developing new strategies for policy and finance approaches to increase investment in the clean energy sector
* develop and maintain effective relationships with key staff at CESA member organizations (CEG also manages the Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA), a coalition of public clean energy funds from fourteen states, see www.cleanenergystates.org)
* develop and implement projects that will help and support CESA members
* write and secure grants from major donors, foundations, and other sources as appropriate. 

Specific Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate will bring the following professional experience and personal characteristics: 

* knowledge of clean energy issues including experience with strategies that involve economic and market-based solutions to clean energy challenges
* demonstrated experience in the research, design and implementation of energy policy or programs as well as finance related initiatives
* familiarity with policy and finance players and groups in the climate and energy fields
* exceptional facilitating skills with a track record of building non-partisan alliances
* excellent communication and writing skills
* flexibility, focus and resilience in the face of high workload, competing demands for time and attention, and a rapidly evolving agenda. 

Relevant experience in work regarding the environment, economics and/or clean energy initiatives is essential. Masters or other advanced degree preferred. CEG offers a highly competitive compensation and benefits package, including medical, life and disability insurance, paid vacation, and a 403(b) plan. The office is based on Montpelier, Vermont, but requires extensive travel. Salary will be commensurate with experience and is negotiable for the right candidate.
