Summer Intern Program:
Reports To: Ecotourism Business Advisor

Intern needed to support the Sustainable Landscapes and Verde Ventures programs during June-July 2006. Days/hours worked would be flexible depending on selected applicant's summer schedule, but total length of the assignment is estimated to be not more than 4-5 weeks, for a total time period of an estimated 160 hours. The position will be unpaid, assuming college credit is received. 

Responsibilities: 

This position will complete a research project for the Sustainable Landscapes program. The intern will conduct research on Concessions Management and Best Practices and would be tasked with: 

- Contacting CI CBC Tourism staff to collect current information on Concessions Management and Best Practices globally
- Identify national programs with exemplary concessions programs, and obtain copies of their approaches based on the three phases of concession management (Due Diligence and Contracting; Negotiating and Contracting with the operator / investor; Concession Management) for inclusion in a database / library
- Identify and developing a database for regional and global experts on tourism concessions
- Organize and develop web based resources and links list of the above information on the CI portal 

In addition to this research project, the intern will also be asked to assist Verde Ventures with a second research project analyzing political risk in up to 5 countries in which Verde Ventures makes investments. The intern will also be asked to support some administrative tasks, which will include updating Verde Ventures loan tracking software, and project database management. This work will enable the intern to learn more about grant/loan tracking systems and about the impacts of Verde Ventures conservation and community development projects in over 10 countries world-wide. 

Qualifications: 

EDUCATION: Some College 

REQUIRED SKILLS & CAPABILITIES: 

Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills; must be able to multi-task and work in a team environment; Proactive attitude. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel. 

PREFERRED SKILLS & CAPABILITIES: 

Interested/prior knowledge of environment issues; foreign language (Spanish preferred) a plus, but not a requirement
