HydroQual, Inc., an ENR Environmental 200 firm and a leader in the field of environmental engineering and science seeks qualified candidates for a position as Environmental Engineer in our Mahwah, New Jersey office.
Water Resources Management Group:
HydroQual's Water Resources Management practice focuses on the application of physics, chemistry, biology, and modern mathematical modeling to understand the fate and transport of contaminants in the natural environment and the effectiveness of management alternatives. We apply one-, two-, and three-dimensional water-quality models and processing tools, including visualization and animation routines, to problems associated with surface-water pathogens, nutrients, dissolved oxygen, organics and toxic chemicals.
HydroQual also provides support services in the areas of Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) determinations, Waste Load Allocations (WLAs), Water Quality Based Effluent Limits (WQBELs), Use Attainability Analysis (UAA), guidance in the development of site-specific sediment and water quality criteria, wastewater facility planning, and the design of field monitoring efforts.
Job Responsibilities include:
- Set up and run coupled finite-difference-based hydrodynamic/water-quality models.
- Modify FORTRAN code, as required.
- Perform essential quality-control checks on programming work and model results.
- Collect, collate, and analyze environmental data from available databases.
- Prepare technical summary reports on data analysis, modeling procedures, and model results.
- Work prioritization and multitasking to maximize productivity.
Successful candidates will possess the following:
- B.S. in environmental engineering / science required; M.S. a plus.
- 2-5 years experience with finite-difference hydrodynamic and / or water-quality models.
- Excellent computer skills, including MS Excel and Word; GIS skills a plus.
- FORTRAN programming and debugging experience.
- Basic statistical skills and understanding.
- Basic understanding of marine and / or estuarine science.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills
- Intellectual curiosity and the ability to learn through self-motivated and self-directed study.
