Regional Administrator, Fort Myers Office Position #0610

The Conservancy of Southwest Florida is a 5,800 member not-for-profit conservation organization founded in Naples, Florida, in 1964. The mission of the Conservancy is preserving Southwest Florida's natural environment, now and forever. The purpose of this position is to provide leadership for the Conservancy on growth management and related environmental issues, development of membership base, and development of community outreach programs in Lee, Charlotte, and other Counties.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Reports to and is supervised by the Governmental Relations Manager and the President.
2. Represent the Conservancy at relevant government and civic meetings regarding conservation issues of interest to the Conservancy.
3. Comment and testify on behalf of the Conservancy at local, state, and federal public hearings when requested.
4. Develop position statements on relevant issues for ratification by the Conservancy Board.
5. Propose innovative public policy solutions to conservation problems of interest to the Conservancy.
6. Oversee, plan, implement, and coordinate reports, conferences, and other activities related to community outreach on conservation public policy issues in Lee, Charlotte, and other Counties.
7. Represent the Conservancy and communicate our message regarding rural development at meetings within Lee, Charlotte, and other Counties.
8. Develop and foster steering committees for the Conservancy in Lee, Charlotte, and other Counties.
9. Oversee the development of community outreach programs and grassroots advocacy efforts through a network of citizens concerned about conservation issues in Lee, Charlotte, and other Counties.
10. Contribute to the "Eye on the Issues" newsletter.
11. Provide public policy assistance to other agencies and organizations involved in growth management and research activities as requested.
12. Educate the local, state, and national elected officials regarding our position on environmental issues in Lee, Charlotte, and other Counties.
13. Support Environmental Policy Division with research, counsel, and advice
14. Manage litigation and administrative law proceedings under the direction of the President and the Environmental Policy Division.
15. Review proposed legislation, position papers, and testimony.
16. Assist with aspects of Conservancy's land acquisition and management.
17. Remain abreast of all major laws, amendments, interpretations and their effect upon the operation of the Corporation as varied factual scenarios implicate such laws, regulatory and judicial holdings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Strong commitment to the conservation of biodiversity, environmental quality, and natural resources.
- Strong training and experience in community outreach, growth management, land use planning, and conservation policy development.
- Bachelor's degree required in natural sciences or environmental policy planning, with Masters or law degree preferred.
- Work experience in environmental conservation, developing and leading community efforts and an understanding of growth management and land use planning.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with individuals of diverse interests and backgrounds.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
- Ability to work independently in a satellite office.
- Willing to work variable hours and to travel within the Southwest Florida counties covered by the Conservancy.
- Residence in Lee County preferred.
- Keen sense of integrity, recognized intellect noted for thoughtful, disciplined ideas, setting an example of ethical propriety, while demonstrating prototype "professional conduct code" behavior.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with individuals of diverse interests and backgrounds, including senior management, board members, outside attorneys, business associates, and media.
- Experience with cost effective management of outside legal resources.
- Excellent written and oral communication, including the ability to explain legal issues and implications to non-legal audiences.
- Ability and willingness to work variable hours and to travel as necessary.
- Self-starter, persuasive, resourceful, and flexible with responsibilities and understands the benefits of collaboration.
- Management experience in staff and budget administration.
- Experience in moving environmental legislation through political channels a plus.
- Knowledge of environment in South Florida a plus.
