TransFair USA is the only certifier of Fair Trade products in the US and the leader of Fair Trade market development efforts. In the last five years, Fair Trade coffee has emerged as the fastest growing segment of the $18.5 billion coffee industry, attracting the support of Starbucks, Green Mountain, Dunkin Donuts and over 450 leading food companies. Fair Trade certification has expanded to include tea, chocolate, bananas, rice and sugar, with new products on the way.

Overview of Position:
The COO is responsible for the general operations of the Marketing, Business Development, Certification, Producer Services, and External Relations teams. The COO leads a team of department heads that creates and implements each group's annual operating plan. The COO works closely with the CEO and other senior officers to develop and implement business strategy. The COO also provides strategic support to major accounts, allies and funders relationships.
The successful applicant will have experience with non-profit or for-profit organizations that have undergone rapid growth and market scaling. Experience taking innovative products or concepts into mainstream markets is essential. The COO must be able to effectively adapt strategies and tactics to rapidly changing environments, and confidently translate the organizational mission and vision into strategic processes that achieve measurable results. Candidate must thrive in an autonomous, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Come help us change the business world!
Responsibilities include:
*Provide advice, recommendations and decisions on all strategic issues and opportunities, major operational issues and important public initiatives.
*Work closely with the CEO, CFO and Board in developing TransFair's business strategy in a high-growth environment.
*Supervise and direct organizational budgeting process, goal setting, and strategic planning.
*Lead the development of an organizational culture and infrastructure that supports world-class performance.
*Represent TransFair USA at national and international conferences and stakeholder meetings.
*Assume direct responsibility for certain strategic accounts, negotiations and external relationships
*Review and execute all contracts and advise on all legal issues such as contract revisions, trademark protection, and label branding.
Qualifications:
*15+ years professional cross-functional (operations, marketing, sales and finance) experience with at least 5 years of senior management experience
*Able to lead and collaborate with teams and a broad variety of external groups, aligning their performance for success.
*Strong project management skills
*Change facilitator, with a flair for innovation
*Strong strategic, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
*MBA or comparable advanced degree required
*Strong communicator on all levels within an organization
*Proven experience in talent identification, leadership development and team-building.
