Description

Location:  Washington, DC - 3 blocks from the Takoma Metro Station on the red line.

Background Information: 

The Center for a New American Dream helps Americans consume responsibly to protect the environment, enhance quality of life and promote social justice. We work with individuals, institutions, communities and businesses to conserve natural resources, counter the commercialization of our culture and promote positive changes in the way goods are produced and consumed. 

Timeframe: 

This is a fall position between Sept-Dec, ideally for 2-4 days (or equivalent) per week. 

Compensation: 

While this is an unpaid position, interns will be reimbursed for commuting via public transportation and receive a $10 per diem (prorated for partial days). (There may also be an opportunity for reduced or free housing; contact us for further details.) 

Description: 

The outreach/grassroots internship offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to work closely with accomplished outreach professionals in a highly successful national non-profit with tens of thousands of activists, members and supporters across North America. The outreach/grassroots intern's responsibilities include: 

*  Promoting various national and local New Dream campaigns (for more information on our current efforts, please see: http://newdream.org/about/campaigns.php); 
*  Developing relationships with environmentally-conscious individuals and organizations by working with student groups, local chapters of national organizations, professors, community leaders, or other interested citizens in order to promote the campaign and mission of New American Dream; 
*  Drafting campaign materials; 
*  Researching various issues applicable to our current campaign efforts as well as potential new issues and strategies; 
*  Corresponding with members and the public; 
*  Helping with general administrative work (approximately 25% of time) and other tasks as requested. 

The ideal candidate will be a good writer with excellent communications and motivational skills who is detail-oriented and capable of taking initiative on specific projects. Successful applicants will also have a sense of humor and subscribe to our philosophy of "more fun, less stuff." Applicants who have an interest or experience with grassroots organizing are preferred.
