New Buildings Institute, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to making buildings better for people and the environment. Working with local, state and regional organizations and utilities, the Institute promotes synergy between market-based and regulatory programs to improve design practices in the building sector that will result in lasting human, economic and environmental benefits. The Institute is committed to promoting energy efficiency and sustainability.
The Institute is seeking a Senior Program Manager. The Senior Program Manager must have strong project management, product development and technical skills. This position requires extensive experience with energy efficiency, sustainability, architectural and design issues, and the commercial building industry.
Position Summary:
The Program Manager will report to the Executive Director and will lead the Institute's work on the Advanced Buildings Guidelines including the Benchmark, associated technical and educational materials, development of new products, implementation strategies, and outreach and assistance to program implementers and industry partners. The Project Manager may also be involved in managing other project areas of Institute work related to guideline development, research, codes and/or training.
Responsibilities and Skills:
Management:
- Strategic planning and project management
- Management of budgets and schedules to achieve anticipated outcomes on target
- Strong team leadership skills; must be aggressive in achieving results while maintaining good work relations and fostering an environment of mutual respect
- Advanced analytical and reasoning skills and an exceptional aptitude for prioritizing
- Candidate must be a solid presenter, communicator and facilitator, both verbally and in writing
Technical:
- Experience with efficient and sustainable design of commercial buildings
- Knowledge of and experience in the energy-efficiency industry
- Technical ability to: analyze, or manage others' analysis of, energy saving opportunities from various technologies, identify and interpret baselines, and determine energy saving opportunities and values
- Familiar with history of successful market transformation efforts
- Understanding of building design specifications
- Established industry contacts to be able to quickly research technical issues in building design, construction and program design
- Codes and Standards advocacy a plus
- Architectural or design background a plus
Education and Experience:
Strong commitment to and extensive experience in disciplines directly related to building design, energy efficiency and sustainability. Proven project management, planning, problem solving and communication skills. Requires at least 5 years of progressive experience in managing large-scale, complex activities in the commercial building market or energy efficiency or. Bachelors degree in related field required, advanced degree preferred.
