The Deputy Director of this young foundation must be able to work independently and function as a dynamic problem solver. This position has direct responsibility for all financial management, business operations and membership services. The Deputy Director participates in development efforts and supervises the entire staff in the absence of the President.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manage Foundation's adherence to audit standards, IRS non-profit requirements, the Standards and Practices of the Land Trust Alliance and the principals of sound, responsible financial management.
2. Prepare and oversee the annual Foundation budget for the approval of the Executive Director and the Board. Issue regular financial reports to key corporate officers and the board, and prepare special reports as required. Manage cash and banking relationships, track grant receipt and spending, prepare and present necessary "impact" reports to granting organizations.
3. Create those elements of the Foundation Strategic Plan which involve fund raising and business operations.
4. Prepare grant applications with staff. Work with individual staff members on matters of budget and finance, day-to-day budget decisions and planning, approve expenditures for travel and purchases, and other financial matters.
5. Establish Foundation policies and procedures and ensure compliance.
6. Oversee and maintain the Foundation's data processing hardware and software.
7. Coordinate donor communications with vendors including membership renewals, major donor correspondence, newsletter and web content
8. Support development efforts. Attend Foundation events and represent the Foundation in the community.
9. Develop, coordinate and operate the Foundation's fundraising operations for membership, land purchases, endowment and special projects.
10. Supervise staff and direct the Foundation's programs in the absence of the President.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Background and experience in financial management, business management, supervising personnel, and associated responsibilities of running a business.
2. Knowledge of computer hardware and software, and the ability to apply this knowledge in selecting and maintaining the Foundation's database, word-processing network, and computing capability.
3. Proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel.
4. Experience in nonprofit fundraising.
5. Background and experience in environmental conservation.
