Description

Under the direct supervision of the Environmental Education Specialists, this person will assist in the coordination and instruction of resident environmental education experiences for elementary and middle school groups at Lorado Taft Campus, Oregon, Illinois. This person will work closely with other staff to develop and teach classes in the outdoor environment to students in the 4th to 8th grades and develop and write curricula. Additionally, this person will assist in the care and improvement of a project area. A private, furnished room is provided on-site.

Primary Work Activities

  1. Assist in the planning and implementation of resident environmental education programs for public and private schools.
  2. Work with the Environmental Education Specialists to determine the proper actions needed to coordinate programs for schools.
  3. Investigate curricula and resource needs of the program. Research and write curricula, as needed. Assist in the care and upkeep of project areas.
  4. Assist the Environmental Education Specialists or Conference Coordinator in planning and coordinating special events, workshops, programs, and weekend conference groups.

Required Qualifications

Prior experience in working or participating in outdoor education or recreation activities. Prior experience in working with children in the role of teacher, coach, mentor, counselor or related situations.

Preferred Qualification

Degree in education, science, history or related field.

Compensation

$1100 month salary; private room, meals when dining hall is in operation; tuition waiver, when feasible; full benefit package, including paid sick days, paid holidays, retirement, health, vision, and dental. Effective August 16, 2005 - June 2, 2006
