Description

Acterra is a non-profit environmental organization with the mission of protecting and restoring our local natural environment through stewardship, education, and leadership. Acterra is located in the Peninsula Conservation Center, a cooperative building that houses a number of environmental organizations.

One of Acterra's programs is a public specialty library that has been collecting environmental materials for 35 years. The Library/Resource Center addresses the environmental information needs of residents of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. Its focus is on 1) providing resources and information on environmental issues of local and regional importance and 2) organizing events on environmentally-related topics of interest to the public. The Coordinator is in charge of the Library/Resource Center and reports to executive director. 

Major Job Responsibilities: 

* Compile information and materials on environmental issues and topics of regional importance.
* Network with the staff of Acterra programs and other local environmental organizations, helping them access important information and share it.
* Produce monthly environmental forums on topics of public interest.
* Work with the library committee and voluteers to focus and maintain the Library/Resource Center's collection of books, periodicals, videos, and web resources.
* Assist patrons in accessing sought-after information.
* Recruit, train, supervise, and recognize Library/Resource Center volunteers.
* Inform other libraries and the general community about the Library/Resource Center's services, especially the new online Catalog.
* Produce and/or supervise the creation of Library/Resource Center outreach materials.
* Coordinate meetings of the Library/Resource Center Advisory Committee.
* Work with Acterra's executive director to raise funds for the Library/Resource Center. 

Qualifications 

Self-directed and energetic person who is good with people and takes initiative
* Well organized multi-tasker 
* Familiarity with Bay Area environmental issues and resources
* Macintosh computer-literate 
* Ability to recruit, work well with and manage volunteers effectively
* Library training and experience very desirable
* Demonstrated commitment to preserving and improving the natural environment 

Compensation: Half-time (20 hours per week): $16,000 per year plus benefits.
