Duties:
Environmental Defense is looking to hire a full-time project manager in its Washington, DC office for its Pollution Prevention Alliance. The primary responsibility for this person will be to spearhead a community-based monitoring project that employs portable technology to fill information gaps about local air pollution and encourage action to improve monitoring and reduce pollution.
- Managing monitoring project, including resolving technical and communication issues, managing partnerships with outside groups, and ensuring quality control of the data collected.
- Collaborating with Environmental Defense air policy and environmental health staff to develop and execute campaign for using monitoring technology to reduce air emissions and improve pollution policy
- Actively engage in fundraising for the monitoring project
- In addition to the monitoring project work, this person will work with other Environmental Defense staff to preserve and improve the public's right-to know about environmental information.
- This will include doing research on chemical risks in communities as well as communication and outreach to demonstrate the value of public information.
Qualifications:
This position requires strong verbal and written communication skills and extensive knowledge of air quality and environmental health issues.
Expertise in air quality monitoring is highly desirable, as is prior work with environmental or other advocacy groups.
- Advanced degree in environmental science or related field
- At least 5 years experience in environmental policy
- A self-starter capable of effective coalition building, coordination, and deployment.
- Capable of managing a diverse workload and assuring high quality follow through on assignments
- Proficient at developing and implementing action plans that meet interim milestones and achieve strategic goals
- Ability to work with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and in a fast-paced work environment
- Salary: Commensurate with experience.
