Description
Northern Arizona University (NAU) invites nominations and applications for the
Dean, School of Forestry. We seek an innovative and creative academic leader
with a strong vision of where we need to go in the 21st century.
Duties:
Reporting to the
Provost, the Dean provides school leadership for instructional, budgetary,
personnel, research and curricular matters, and is responsible for university
procedures and policies at the school level.
The School of Forestry offers a master of science (thesis and non-thesis) and
doctoral programs in forestry. Our expanding graduate program is currently
supported by 95 grants totaling over 1.5 million dollars and has close working
relationships with the Merriam-Powell Center for Environmental Research, Center
for Sustainable Environments, the Ecological Restoration Institute, and several
other departments on campus.
Qualifications:
- The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in a discipline within the
schools areas of responsibility, and a professional record commensurate with
appointment as Full Professor with tenure. - S/he will possess a minimum of three
years of administrative experience. -
The successful candidate must fully support the mission and implementation of the
Schools programs and will be responsible for setting direction, planning and
organizing, and managing budgets for the School. - At least one degree in Forestry

A successful professional/scholarly record of accomplishment

Leadership and administrative responsibility for academic programs, faculty,
staff, and students in one or more of the disciplines represented in the
School -
Awareness of trends that may affect the Schools mission
-
Demonstrated planning, budgeting and personnel management skills
-
Experience with promoting diversity and a demonstrated commitment to
working effectively in a multicultural environment -
Commitment to the importance of recruiting, teaching, advising, and
retaining students -
Commitment to innovative teaching programs

Commitment to promoting and supporting research and scholarly activities

Success in fund raising, advancement activities and in generating extramural
funding for instructional, research, and public service programs -
Demonstrated success in fostering a collegial, collaborative environment
with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and the surrounding communities
