Minnesotans for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ME3)is seeking an exceptional individual for a leadership role in a fast-paced, success-oriented nonprofit organization.
ME3 is a policy-development and constituency-organizing public-interest organization that is working to lead the transition to an energy system that is clean, efficient and fair. The deputy director position is a new senior staff position, reporting to the Executive Director, and supervising all programmatic work of the organization.
The organization is growing its programs and budget, with an expectation of 12 employees and a $1.4 million budget in three years. This new position is seen by the board as a key part of our strategy to increase the organizations capacity and rate of development.

The ideal candidate will be a leader within the field of environment and policy.
Key areas of accountability:
- Management: Maintain systems of internal management and supervision, evaluation, and oversight of work plans that advance the strategic plan. Maintain system of accountability for major progress toward plan's outcomes.
- Capacity Building: Work closely with committed and focused staff to move the organization to the next level of performance, effectiveness and impact. Add significant capacity in program and administration areas internal to the organization, freeing executive director for more outward-directed work on policy, development and new program directions and alliances.
- Coordination: Increase the coordination and the flow of work through the ME3 senior staff, collaborating organizations and contractors. Coordinate sub-contracts and collaborations with major partners, working to maximize effectiveness and synergy among key constituent organizations of ME3.
- Communications: Oversee systems of communications internally and externally, expanding ME3 abilities to get its message out through printed communications, Web, and other media.
- Policy Advocacy: Help sustain ME3s policy-reform focus, and assist in core constituency-building and public communications functions of organization.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in policy, management, business or law.
- Minimum five years experience in direct management of staff and operations, preferably in nonprofit sector, but comparable experience in business or government is welcome.
- Excellent writing skills and public communications skills.
- Prior direct work experience in energy-policy issues, advocacy and campaign-style work a definite plus.
Terms:
Compensation: Commensurate with experience, excellent benefit package, including generous health, retirement and vacation policy.
