Description
Duties:
This position will have statewide and Division-wide responsibilities for
planning, coordinating, conducting, and evaluating market and other surveys
to identify constituent needs, desires, and opinions (i.e., human dimensions
surveys) and evaluating Division effectiveness in delivering programs that
satisfy these sociological variables. He/she will conduct human dimension
surveys as part of implementation and operation of the new Cooperative
Upland Habitat Restoration and Enhancement Program, a new private lands
initiative approved and funded by the Commission at its August, 2000
meeting. Through conducting human dimensions surveys and coordination with
other Division staff, he/she will develop and maintain close partnerships
with other agencies, private organizations, and individuals, including, but
not limited to, private landowner groups, the North Carolina Bear Hunters
Association, North Carolina Bowhunters Association, and North Carolina
Coonhunters Association.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Minimum requirements are graduation from a four-year college or university
with a major in wildlife biology or management with 3 years experience in
human dimensions surveying; OR an equivalent combination of training and
experience. Because of the specialized aspects of this position, applicants
holding an advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in wildlife management or
wildlife biology; or Master Degree in human dimensions of natural resources
or a related social or economic science are preferred.
Additional Qualifications:
The employee should be completely familiar with agency structure, political
realities, and technical aspects of the job. Well-developed communication
skills are required for this position. Ability to prepare quality written
reports and make oral presentations is mandatory. Accomplished
communication skills are required daily. Advanced principles of sociology,
statistics, human dimensions sampling, scientific method, and wildlife
management are necessary. Additionally, a working knowledge of hunting,
trapping, farming, and forestry practices is required. Good motivational
and personal management skills are required.
Additional KSAs include:
Ability to tailor human dimensions surveys and presentations to target
audiences, knowledge of human dimension surveying principals and practices,
knowledge of the techniques for disseminating information to the public
through a variety of news media, promotional and marketing skills, ability
to prepare survey plans, ability to develop formal survey programs, ability
to coordinate and manage multiple programs simultaneously,
ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
with representatives of the media, special interest groups, and the general
public, and ability to deal effectively with diverse demographic groups.
Salary is commensurate with education, experience and equity among other
employees and the pay range is: $30,451 - $49,799.
