Description
Duties:
The Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency and the
Sacramento County Department of Regional Parks, Recreation and Open Space
are seeking a bright, articulate Natural Resources Specialist
to serve as principal liaison between the two agencies while coordinating and
implementing floodway and land management programs for habitat restoration
sites in the American River Parkway and Sacramento County.
- The Natural Resources Specialist II will conduct field work in order to monitor
and evaluate habitat restoration and enhancement projects using formalized
monitoring protocols established by regulatory agencies; - identify habitat
enhancement and mitigation opportunities and recommend strategies for adaptive
management; - administer encroachment permits; and participate as support staff
to the Lower American River Task Force.
Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be technically proficient in multiple aspects of natural
- habitat restoration;
- fish
& wildlife ecology & management; - endangered species issues and management;
- scientific method and its application;
- and GPS/GIS mapping using ArcView.

addition, candidates must be experienced in writing detailed technical reports and
possess an awareness of landscape level planning principles & management.

The Natural Resources Specialist II will serve as a technical resource and advisor
to the Deputy Director of County Parks and SAFCA's Natural Resources
Supervisor. Sound project management and problem solving skills, as well as
experience with interagency and interdisciplinary coordination (regulators at
Federal, State, and local government; private and public stakeholders.) is critical.
The Natural Resources Specialist II acts, as both steward and advocate for the
Parkway handling issues diplomatically and with an understanding of the political
implications of recommendations, therefore excellent interpersonal skills and the
ability to perform well in a public forum, including presentations to government
bodies, are vital.
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as the Biological Sciences, Natural
Resource Sciences, Landscape Architecture or related studies and a valid
California Driver's License are required.
Compensation: Salary is up to $1,681, bi-weekly, depending on qualifications. The position also
offers an attractive benefits package.
