Background:
The School for Field Studies, headquartered in Beverly, Massachusetts,
is the oldest and largest educational institution devoted exclusively to
teaching hands-on field research skills and actively engaging
undergraduate students in international environmental problem solving
strategies. Since our founding in 1980, more than 10,000 students
have studied abroad at SFS field stations in Australia, British Columbia,
Costa Rica, Kenya, Mexico, and the Turks & Caicos Islands.
We seek to staff the position of Finance Director beginning in October
2002.
If you are enthusiastic, customer service oriented, technology savvy,
solidly grounded in accounting and finance, a team leader, concerned
about environmental issues, fluent in both Spanish and English, and
enjoy working with international and domestic accounting colleagues
this position could be a great opportunity for you. The SFS Finance
Director oversees the School's finance team, business processes, and
supports SFS worldwide field bookkeeping operations.
Duties include:
- overall management of the financial operation, including direct
supervision of the accounting, budgeting, reporting, payroll, and
analytical systems and functions including financial software systems; - supervision and leadership of the Finance Team,
- business process
and technology evaluation and improvement, - support and training of
center Accounting Staff, Account Managers and Center Directors.
Qualifications:
- Degree in accounting, business and/or public administration (CPA w/
people skills or MBA preferred), along with a history of progressively
senior level management and financial responsibility within the
education, public or non-profit sectors. - Proven fiscal and budget management skills.
- Strong supervisory and training skills.
- Experience and talents in innovating and improving business
processes and procedures. - Fluent in Spanish and English
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and build strong working
relationships with international operations. - In-depth knowledge of financial information technology, including
Solomon and Quick Books or equivalent. - Experience with financial reporting to Boards of Trustees.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and
Spanish. - Legal authorization to work in the US. SFS Alumni encouraged to
