Description
Background:
The National Office of the American Civil Liberties Union, a national
not-for-profit public interest organization, is seeking applicants for a
full-time support position with its Communications Department.
Duties:
The successful candidate is responsible for performing clerical and
secretarial duties for the publications unit of the Department under the
direct supervision of the Editorial Coordinator.
- Responsibilities:
- Maintaining two databases, one for constituency outreach and the
other for discrimination complaints; - Maintaining regular contact with fulfillment house for inventory
control; handle bookkeeping, inventory records; order and maintain
inventory of merchandise; - Handling calls from affiliates and public regarding publications,
merchandise and customer service; - Handling and approve routine reprint permission requests for articles,
images and logos; - Performing research related to fact checking, availability of stock
photographs; - Handling word processing of various documents;
- Developing and maintaining a filing system;
- General office duties, including monthly mailings to affiliates;
- Other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- Applicants should have at least two years secretarial experience.
- Work
with database requires high level of accuracy and attention to detail. - Excellent proofreading, organizational, oral, written and interpersonal
skills; - Work well under pressure, meet deadlines and have aptitude for
numbers. - Experience working with Outlook, Word (Windows), Excel,
and the Internet. - Must have proficiency with Access.
- Candidate must
be a self-starter, take initiative, and be able to work independently. - Interest in civil liberties is essential.
