Report To: OPERATIONS MANAGER

MAJOR DUTIES:

Plan, organize, direct and control all aspects of engineering activities through project engineers, process/manufacturing engineers and other technical staff.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan, organize, direct and control the Engineering Department using knowledge of general engineering principles, manufacturing, management skills and tooling/machining.

Assess workload, assign staff to customer projects, oversee completion of these projects according to specific deadlines and project timelines.

Review project schedules on a timely basis to ensure the projects are completed on time. Take steps to make sure that if projects are slipping to get these back on track, co-ordinate with other departments as required.

Provide engineering expertise for projects progressing through the manufacturing process for plant layout, process improvement, part quality improvement, ergonomic improvement, scrap/reject improvement and cost reduction by tooling, machining and manpower.

Conduct employee performance evaluations, recommend salary adjustments, initiate personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, discharges and disciplinary measures for staff reporting to manager.

Act as a main contact for special projects and/or key customers; travel to customer sites, work with their engineering/management staff.

Provide technical support to sales by ensuring samples, prototype and PPAP parts are done in an accurate and timely manner.

Assist in interviewing and selecting applicants for positions in the department when hiring and to ensure development and upgrading of current staff.

Must Have Skills
*
Post secondary education in Mechanical Design, Industrial Engineering, Engineering/Science or equivalent.
*
Mininum of 5 years experience in a manufacturing/engineering environment, preferably in a high production assembly production.
*
Must be able to work in a mult-discipline engineering environment, often under pressure conditions.
