Description
Field Operations Department
Earthwatch Institute
Earthwatch Institute is an international, non-profit, organization that promotes sustainable conservation of our natural resources and cultural heritage by creating partnerships between scientists, the general public, educators, and businesses. We believe that achieving a sustainable future requires objective scientific data from the field but also that the scientific process must engage the general public if it is to change the world.
The Expedition Coordinator (EC) position involves recruitment and coordination of teams of paying volunteers working on 25 to 30 domestic and international field research expeditions. The EC is responsible for managing volunteers, meeting team projections, and preparing selected volunteers for their field experience. ECs act as liaisons between scientists, volunteers, and Earthwatch Institute Headquarters, and providing an on-going service and support to our volunteers and scientists.
Responsibilities include receiving and processing volunteer applications to projects, responding to general inquiries for information on projects and providing support to volunteers getting ready to field, updating the scientists on team make-up and demographics, working with Program Manager in evaluating and coordinating project logistics, and providing post-fielding support to volunteers.
Candidates should have customer service experience, personal or professional travel experience (especially developing countries), the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and preferably a background in environmental, or biological sciences or related field, and an interest in public education. Strong organizational, communication (especially phone), and office skills are required.
