Alaska Center for the Environment is looking for bright, articulate,
dedicated people to work on grassroots organizing in our canvass outreach
department.
1. TITLE: FIELD CANVASSER
A few nuts and bolts-Campaign Field Organizers should expect to work from
2:00 PM-10:00 PM. There are full and part time positions available. Most of
that time is spent in communities around the Anchorage, but we do go on over
night trips to other Alaskan towns. Your day well be spent educating people
and organizing them on local and state-wide campaigns.
Duties include fostering communication between citizens and government
officials, organizing rallies, targeted legislative phone lobbying,
grassroots participation in public hearings on our issues, and fundraising.
Individuals become members of Alaska Center for the Environment, giving us
financial resources and political power needed to win campaigns. Field
Organizers are expected to fundraise an easily reachable standard. Pay is a
base of $300 a week plus a fundraising incentive. Most outreach staff can
expect to bring home $60-$80 per day.
2. TITLE: PHONE CANVASSER
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Activate Alaska residents to take action on
local issues through grassroots organizing; participate in telephone
outreach program for public education, raising public awareness and
activating the public through political fundraising and citizen lobbying;
represent Alaska Center for the Environment's ideals and mission in a
professional and courteous manner; responsible for contacting members from
Alaska Center for the Environment's membership base and disseminating
pertinent phone numbers/addresses of officials for constituents to
call/write, and renew memberships while meeting or exceeding staff quota
(avg.) of $250 per night. Participate in daily training and briefing
sessions.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to commit to a minimum of 3 days Sunday though
Thursday from 5pm to 10pm, with the option of a Five day work week. This is
a seasonal position(March-May).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have successfully completed the phone canvass training
program, demonstrating an understanding of Alaska Center for the
Environment's mission and campaigns, with the ability to communicate these
ideas to the public. Strong communications skills, self motivation, a strong
commitment to protecting Alaska's environment.
TRAINING:
Paid training for motivated activists and organizers which happens
in the office.
COMPENSATION:
$10.00 per hour plus bonus, based on meeting or exceeding
staff quota (avg.) of $250 per night.
Working in Alaska Center for the Environment's Outreach Department can give
you the skills needed to work in the non-profit sector. In fact, many folks
that work in the canvass outreach department move on to positions in
different departments within Alaska Center for the Environment or other
non-profit organizations, utilizing skills that they gained doing outreach.
