The Cascade Head Public Use (CHPU) Coordinator will interact with volunteers and visitors to the Cascade Head Preserve, conduct general public educational activities, and provide advice on public use issues.

Specifically, position will organize and manage a corps of volunteer docents and hike leaders who will interact with preserve visitors to foster better compliance with preserve use guidelines; lead interpretive hikes with school and adult groups, as necessary; maintain signs; and perform other preserve maintenance.

A high school diploma or GED is required, plus relevant college course work in the natural sciences with at least one field season of relevant work experience or no course work and at least 2 field seasons of previous relevant work experience. Experience or education in natural history interpretation, public use management, and conflict resolution is preferred.

Physical requirements of the job include the ability and willingness to work outdoors under variable weather conditions and hike 3-5 miles a day over steep terrain. Applicants must provide their own transportation. This position is based on The Nature Conservancy's Cascade Head Preserve near Lincoln City, Oregon.

The Cascade Head Public Use Coordinator is a non-exempt, part-time position supervised by the Oregon Coast Stewardship Ecologist. The position begins May 15, 2002, and ends September 5, 2002. The Public Use Coordinator will be paid $8.00/hour for up to 20 hours/week. Housing will not be provided.
