The Juniper Hills (JH) Stewardship Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining preserve
improvements on a 14,000-acre site. Specifically, position will control non-native species, maintain fences, chainsaw juniper trees, conduct vegetation monitoring, manage contractors, and oversee the preserve's hunting and grazing programs.

Applicants must have three years experience working on a ranch/farm and/or directing field investigation; familiarity with Central Oregon flora; an Oregon State herbicide applicator's license; and skills in basic carpentry, fencing, and chainsaw operation. A degree in plant/animal ecology or another natural resource field is preferred.

Applicants must be willing and able to hike 5 miles/day over steep terrain and work outdoors under variable weather conditions. This position is based on The Nature Conservancy's Juniper Hills Preserve near Prineville, Oregon.

The Juniper Hills Stewardship Coordinator is a non-exempt position supervised by the Columbia Plateau Stewardship Director. This position begins April 8, 2002, and ends November 22, 2002. The JH Stewardship Coordinator will be paid $11.50 to $12.50/hour for 40 hours/week, depending on experience. Housing may be provided. Benefits are available with this position.
