Position Overview
AEA West is seeking Energy Analysts/Energy Engineer s to join our
tight-knit, talented team of “Energy Geeks”. The candidate should have experience performing energy audits, energy
modeling, and assisting property owners through complex retrofit projects. If you are passionate about energy
conservation and renewable energy, you love buildings, and you’re seeking to
learn from an experienced organization in a hands-on environment, this is the

The Energy Analyst
will independently conduct energy and green building assessments of multifamily
properties, providing engineering analysis at both the project and program
levels, designing and managing retrofit projects, performing green building
assessments, and conducting a variety of technology and market assessments.
The Energy Analyst engages in data collection, building diagnostics, research,
data analysis, energy modeling and report production as needed to complete a range
of project types. He or she is expected
to be a self-starter, an independent problem solver, and a strong team-player. This position may require statewide travel.
Responsibilities
The Energy Analyst may be responsible for:
- Conducting energy audits and in-field
energy assessments, on-site diagnostics, field data collection and analysis - Performing energy modeling and
building simulations - Preparing energy and green building assessment
reports based on analytic findings which include detailed equipment specifications
and cost savings analysis - Energy efficiency program
implementation - Conducting technical peer review
- Performing LEED, Green Point Rated and
HERS consulting services - Performing commissioning and retro-commissioning
studies - Performing renewable energy
feasibility assessments - Conducting trainings both internally
and publically on energy efficiency technologies, energy auditing principles,
and energy efficient building operations - Working on national projects to help
develop industry standards and guidelines
Note: These job
responsibilities may be revised over time to ensure the functional
responsiveness of the Energy Analyst to AEA and Federal and California State
program requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering,
architecture, environmental science, construction management or other
sustainability related focus, with a demonstrated interest in energy
conservation and building science preferred - Knowledge of building systems
including lighting technologies, building envelope, mechanical systems and
combustion science
Additional Qualifications Desired:
- Basic knowledge and understanding of
Title 24 and other building codes - Familiarity with local, state and
federal incentive and rebate programs - Ability to perform cost savings
analyses and fuel data analyses - Sound technical writing skills and
experience - Home Energy Rating Systems (HERS and
HERS II) rater certification preferred - Building Performance Institute (BPI)
certification preferred - Experience with the use of energy
modeling software a plus, i.e., EnergyPro, TREAT, eQUEST, DOE2 programs - Proficiency in Microsoft software,
including Excel but also Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
