~ The mission of the University of Maine 4-H Camp and Learning Center at Bryant Pond is to educate and inspire people of all ages and backgrounds toward social, economic, and environmental sustainability and conservation through affordable, experiential learning. ~

We model leadership and life skills development, community collaboration, self-reliance, wellness, and a sense of stewardship for our natural world. This mission supports the broader mission of the UMaine Extension 4-H Youth Development Program, "to help Maine people improve their lives through education that uses research-based knowledge focused on issues, needs and aspirations."

Position Overview

Live in the mountains of Maine and share your love of the outdoors and sciences to people of all ages and backgrounds. We are looking for dedicated educators passionate about the natural world and building positive human communities. Candidates will be considered for any combination of the three seasons; spring-fall.

Responsibilities

  • Care for the health, safety and well being of all students
  • Manage risk
  • Teach and lead groups of 8-15 students
  • Foster interpersonal relationships that reflect courtesy, civility and mutual respect
  • Full-time work, Monday through Friday with rotating night time and weekend responsibilities

Qualifications

  • 1st Aid and CPR, WFA/WFR is preferred
  • Experience educating and managing youth, kindergarten-12th grade in an outdoor setting as well as the confidence to lead adult groups
  • Experience facilitating teambuilding initiatives, low and high challenge courses and climbing wall activities
  • Understanding of basic ecological concepts
  • Willingness to be flexible and adapt your energy to the needs of the program and participants
  • Commitment to working collectively as a part of a hard-working, supportive and positive team
  • Ability to hike 5-10 miles with a 40lb pack, teach canoeing skills, and comfortably lift 50+ lbs
  • Interests that include: Agriculture, Archery, Primitive Survival Skills, Fishing, Hiking, Canoeing, Hunting, Backpack/Canoe Expeditions, Forestry, Gardening, Engineering, and Science in general

Compensation: Salary $320/wk + room and board
