RTC, with more than 160,000 members and supporters, is the nation's largest trails organization dedicated to connecting people and communities by creating a nationwide network of public trails, many from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Founded in 1986, RTC's national office is located in Washington, D.C., with regional offices in California, Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Position Overview 

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a national trails, walking, and bicycling advocacy organization, is actively recruiting for a temporary contract Youth Engagement Coordinator for summer 2015. This is a fantastic job opportunity for those with a strong background and interest in working with youth and watershed education.

Note: This is a temporary, full-time position for the summer of 2016. 

Responsibilities  

  • Conducting youth engagement events that promote bicycle and pedestrian trails in the Greater Philadelphia Region; 
  • Leading youth on bike rides and executing weekly watershed education events;
  • Managing volunteers and interns; and
  • Assisting in evaluating program at the end of summer; and Performing other tasks required for the success of the program.


Qualifications
 

  • Strong cycling skills and the ability to ride for long periods of time and long distances;
  • Knowledge of environmental science;
  • Experience developing relationships with community partners; Experience educating youth and developing youth leaders; Proven experience planning small-scale events;
  • Good verbal communication and people skills;
  • Strong organization and time-management skills;
  • Enthusiasm, resourcefulness, initiative, creativity and flexibility; and
  • Good basic office software programs as well as social media skills.
