Description
An experienced youth organizer is wanted to work on environmental justice and housing issues in Central Brooklyn. The organizer will be responsible for implementing and facilitating an organizing curriculum for high school students, developing youth leaders around environmental justice issues, and conducting participatory research projects to document health and housing hazards and push for policy changes and agency accountability.
Must be able to jump right into projectso prior organizing experience a must, and experience working with youth strongly recommended. Will join 6-person organizing team, and will be asked to assist other organizing projects as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Self-starter with youth organizing experience, Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) a plus
- Good organizational and communication skills (especially writing)
- Willingness to work evenings and some weekend hours
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate community organizing & environmental justice curriculum for Central Brooklyn high school students
- Provide guidance and support for students as they conduct research projects and neighborhood campaigns around lead paint hazards and unsafe housing conditions
- Develop intergenerational leadership group of youth and parents to push for solutions to environmental, health and housing problems in Central Brooklyn
- Collaborate with other local and city-wide organizations
- Prepare written reports as required
