Position Overview:

The Wind Turbine Technician is a highly skilled position performing troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.  Wind turbine technicians are accountable for safety and quality of work and required to perform complicated mechanical, hydraulic, electrical repairs, and preventive maintenance for Infigen Energy Management Group customer sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the establishment of a proactively safety minded World Class Infigen Energy service department.
  • Perform the necessary service work at the wind power plant in accordance with OEM and or Infigen Energy specifications. This work should be directed at achieving the project specified turbine performance and availability in a safe manner.
  • Assist the Asset Manager with identifying problems and anticipated problems with the wind turbines.
  • Provide expert repairs and diagnosis of complex problems involving the operation of the turbines in your service area.
  • Install, alter, maintain and repair electrical wiring systems, fixtures, transformers and other electrical equipment related to the turbine.
  • Locate and correct electrical problems associated with the turbine to include the controllers, communications, various control systems, control panels, etc....
  • Follow OEM and Infigen Energy service, maintenance, and safety manuals to ensure safe, quality workmanship at the project site while improving the reliability of the turbines.
  • Become a competent and resourceful member of the Infigen Energy team doing what needs to be done to accomplish the job safely for Infigen Energy and customer satisfaction.
  • Continuously improving skills and traveling occasionally to attend Infigen Energy sponsored training and safety sessions.
  • Work to exceed customers' expectations of our service responsibilities and constantly improve the Infigen Energy operation.
  • Document work activities accounting for all hours being billed and or paid for. This includes project turbine inventory and balance of plant inventory tracking so inventory amounts remain accurate.
  • Capable of sharing with other technicians what you've learned troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing the turbine safely.
  • Assist with high-voltage work and other balance of plant work as needed.
  • Help in all areas of site operations as directed by manager with minimal supervision.

Qualifications:

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Situational awareness of surroundings.
  • Problem solving skills being able to identify problems and recommend solutions to remedy issues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees and management.
  • Ability to retain training and instruction given by superiors and peers.

Technical Skills:

  • Mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical skills required to perform service tasks as outlined in the OEM turbine service manuals.
  • Ability to detect defects in wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems to facilitate repairs.
  • Ability to use and interact with computers (software, hardware) for interfacing with turbine frequency converter and controller systems, work tracking, and inventory. Understanding of computer networking and configuration ability desired.

Educational Requirements:

  • 1 year certificate from college or technical school; or 3 + months related experience or wind industry training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid drivers license with acceptable driving record

Required Work Experience:

  • Experience working with electrical test equipment, hydraulic tools, and hand tools.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to climb multiple towers up to 300' on a daily basis in any weather condition following the Infigen Energy company safety policy.
