Williamson River Delta Plant Ecologist

The Williamson River Delta (WRD) Plant Ecologist will conduct inventories of wetland and riparian plant species and assist with plant monitoring and research efforts.

Specifically, position will conduct project design and set-up; inventory plant species on the preserve, identifying rare and invasive plant species; sample nutrients; sample fish species; monitor hydrology; assist with field studies; collect and enter data; collaborate on data analysis and report preparation; and maintain field equipment. The majority of the WRD Plant Ecologist's time will be spent in the field working with the WRD Aquatic Ecologist, WRD Project Director, other staff, and volunteers.

Applicants must have a graduate degree in botany, ecology, biology, or a closely related field or an undergraduate degree and 2 years experience conducting fieldwork involving plant identification.

Physical requirements of the job include the ability to swim, hike 3-5 miles a day, and carry a 40-pound backpack for extended periods of time. Applicants must be willing to work outdoors under variable weather conditions. Applicants must provide their own transportation. This position is based on The Nature Conservancy's Williamson River Delta Preserve near Klamath Falls, Oregon.

The Williamson River Delta Preserve Plant Ecologist is a non-exempt position supervised by the WRDP Restoration Project Director. The position begins May 28, 2002, and ends December 31, 2002. The WRDP Plant Ecologist will be paid $13.00/hour for 20 hours/week. Housing will not be provided. Benefits are available with this position.
