Through the use of state-of-the-art statistical principles in the design, conduct and analysis of ecological field studies, WEST specializes in a common sense, defensible, and professional approach to the solution of natural resource problems facing government and industry. WEST has a permanent core of ecologists and biometricians with broad experience in basic and applied ecological studies and the sophisticated analysis of natural resource data.
Position Overview:
Western EcoSystems Technology, Inc. (WEST, Inc.) seeks a project manager / wildlife ecologist for its Burlington, Vermont, Bismarck, North Dakota & Bloomington, Indiana offices with at least 5 years of experience and a proven ability for problem-solving and working with and supervising others.
Responsibilities:
- Duties include project management, wildlife study design, business development, client and wildlife agency coordination, project field work, data analysis, and report preparation.
- This will include conducting and supervising pre-and post-construction monitoring associated with wind power facilities and other development projects, assisting other project managers with proposals and reports, making new professional contacts, and diversifying project and client base.
- Initiating new work based upon personal expertise is encouraged.
- Other duties may also include habitat mapping, wetland delineations and permitting, site evaluations for suitability for T&E and special status/sensitive species, and conducting other ecological projects associated with larger multidisciplinary research investigations.
- Travel is required.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree required; Master's or Ph. D. degree preferred, in wildlife ecology or related field, with at least 5 years of related work experience are required.
- Must be able to work independently and interact positively with other managers, clients, landowners, professional staff, and technicians.
- Proposal preparation, technical writing, file organization, and familiarity with various computer software (including word processing and spreadsheets) are essential in this position.
- Applicants should have prior experience designing and conducting wildlife research.
- Experience conducting research at wind-energy facilities, environmental consulting, conducting studies of bird and bat ecology, wetland delineations, and terrestrial surveys are pluses.
- Familiarity with statistical software and/or GIS software and hardware is favorable.

Valid driver's license is required upon submittal of resume. Investigation into driving record will be conducted upon hire. Driving record must meet standards set to operate motor vehicle on behalf of WEST. Background check will be conducted on final candidates. Contract will require drug testing and candidates must be able to pass drug screening criteria.
