Central Klickitat Conservation District, Northwest Service Academy - AmeriCorps
Term of Service: June 2, 2008 - November 15, 2008
Work to promote the Firewise program and implementation of Community Wildfire Protection Plans in high fire-risk communities through public education and outreach efforts at county wide and community events and meetings.
Duties Include:
- Build capacity by working with local leadership, communities and landowners to reduce the threat of loss of property and life due to wildland/urban interface fire events.
- Produce community and individual Firewise assessments and coordinate fuels reduction projects.
- Complete reporting requirements and maintain records of activity.
- Develop public outreach and education program for other Conservation District grants as required in grant Scope of Work.
The service work involves developing and presenting power point programs, writing newspaper articles, radio advertisements, presenting at local meetings.
Goals include: developing and completing Firewise assessments and implementation projects - 60%; Performing public education and outreach for grants other than Firewise/establishing partnerships with other agencies - 30%; Reporting and records maintenance - 10%.
