The Western Lands Specialist, reporting to the Director of Eco-Justice Programs and based in Washington, D.C., will be a one-year contract and will aim to increase the number of churches engaged in Western land issues through education and advocacy.

This specialist will have access to the Wyss Fellowship program and engage with other upcoming professionals in the area of land conservation. He/She is responsible for developing an appropriate outreach strategy, comprehensive education and public advocacy resources on land issues, identifying existing resources, and developing web content and electronic outreach strategies. He/She has responsibility for developing an active electronic network on Western land issues and creating and implementing a media outreach strategy. The position will entail research, writing, organizing, political strategizing, outreach strategizing, administration, and resource development.

While funding for the position is for only one year, the Western Lands Fellow will be encouraged to identify opportunities and funding possibilities for continued work by the Council on Western land issues.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

-Develop an appropriate outreach and media strategy that will engage churches on Western land issues.
-Develop web content and create active electronic network on Western land issues.
-Present public land issue information at meetings and conferences.
-Research faith-based land resources. Recommend and coordinate the development and production of additional resources on public land issues.
-Provide assistance to local and regional faith groups to address Western public land issues.
-Assist in the preparation and production of proposals and donor reports. Perform prospect research and assist in the development of new project ideas.
-Serves on committees and special project boards as necessary.
-Assists the Director of Eco-Justice Programs on other matters as required.
-Special considerations: Travel may be required.
