Launched in August 2003, ReusableBags.com has established itself as the preeminent website dedicated to promoting the use of reusable shopping bags as a pragmatic solution to the growing problems caused by the massive over-consumption of single-use plastic shopping bags.
Acting as a hub, reusablebags.com spreads awareness by educating consumers with facts on consumption/litter, and provides summaries of news articles and trends from around the world on the global push to reduce plastic bag consumption. Its store offers a wide range of high-quality, stylish, durable reusable shopping bags and accessories designed to help consumers reduce and reuse.
Position Overview:
The ReusableBags.com Web Developer position will be responsible for developing additional site functionality and maintaining both the customer facing website as well as the website back-end supporting operational functions. This person must have excellent PHP experience with a solid foundational understanding of the LAMP technology toolset.
This position offers a significant opportunity to shape the technology vision of the company and enables the developer to have a dramatic impact on several aspects of the business, from the end-user experience to order and fulfillment automation.
This person also will work with our web development manager, operations, and marketing teams on various projects such as improving and upgrading our ecommerce / backend systems, launching additional storefronts, and other initiatives such as blogging, affiliates, feedback forums, etc.
We are open to a wide range of candidates from junior (recent college graduates) to mid-level PHP programmers; we are able and eager to provide a flexible and enjoyable work environment. Our objective is to find a sharp, enthusiastic developer excited about Open Source and sustainable products
Responsibilities:
- Website programming for defect resolution, site enhancements
- System and site error diagnosis and problem resolution
- Site/code performance analysis and tuning
- Maintain clean, well written code / documentation
- Create and maintain written procedures for responsibilities
- Miscellaneous technical support
- Be at the front of and help propel a paradigm shift, while gaining tremendous and valuable experience.
We have an entrepreneurial work environment with a lot of autonomy. While a casual environment, work is fast paced and outstanding results are expected. We expect this position to be 40 - 45 hours / week. Flex-time and some telecommuting are possibilities. This position will also require sharing 'on call' responsibilities for our production web server during system emergencies. Approximate office hours: M-F, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM.
Qualifications:
BS or BA degree, or working towards degree in software engineering or computer science
Skills and Experience:
- 2 + years of PHP and HTML
- 2 + years of Javascript
- 2 + years of CSS
- 1 - 2 years of SQL (preferably mysql 4/5)
- 1 - 2 years of linux (linux enthusiasts preferred!)
- Demonstrated understanding of MVC architecture, object oriented design, template and/or tag libraries
The following skills are not required but are favorable:
- Oscommerce, osCmax, or Zen cart experience
- Experience with 3rd party PHP and Javascript libraries (Smarty, jQuery)
- E-commerce and GUI interface design
- Subversion and Trac source code management
- Paypal and Payflo pro payment systems, credit card authorization
- PHPUnit/Unit testing framework
Compensation: We offer a strong compensation package based on individual & company results upside potential. Levers include salary / hourly rate plus incentives.
