Description
Responsibilities:
* Oversee and implement all aspects of two creek restoration projects. This work includes completing bank stabilization and planting designs to improve water quality, reduce weed populations and improve habitat for native wildlife species. This position will also be responsible for contracting and overseeing installation crews and assisting in related field work.
* Oversee and implement all aspects of a weed mapping and Arundo control program in the Sacramento Delta.
* Serve as the Solano County Weed Management Area coordinator. This work includes cooperating with private landowners to reduce weed populations on their properties, planning county-wide weed management meetings and field days, and managing the Solano County GIS weed database.
* Oversee and implement all aspects of two watershed education field programs. One program instructs high school students on the use of biomonitoring to assess creek health. After several introductory in-class lessons the students will collect aquatic macroinvertebrates, identify them in the lab and complete the CDFG metric analysis. The second program connects urban elementary students with nature. Activities focus on "teachable moments" in the field, basic biological surveys and educational games.
Qualifications:
* A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Ecology, Agriculture, Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Education or a related field of study is required. A Masters degree in a similar field is preferred.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Windows 98, Excel and Arc View are required.
* Knowledge of the Central California ecosystem and agricultural practices, threats to the landscape and regionally appropriate methods of conservation is required.
* Applicant should be a team player with an ability to work with staff, board members and local landowners who have a diverse range of backgrounds, motivations and interests.
Compensation: $42,000 to $47,000 DOE. A valid driver's license and liability insurance is required. The employee be required to work a mixture of evening and day hours, in the field and in the office. The regular work time will be 8-5 Monday through Friday with occasional night and weekend obligations.
The position is a full-time non-exempt position with medical, dental and vision benefits. Retirement benefits furnished upon completion of a six (6) month probationary period.
