North East Trees is a community based, grassroots, environmental non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. We are one of the few design build non-profit organizations in Los Angeles. The North East Trees staff includes licensed professional arborists, landscape architects, landscape designers, and environmental scientists that ensure efficient and effective end-to-end project management.
NET has been making change happen in Los Angeles, California for over 20 years. Through our 5 programs areas, NET has created the building blocks for healthy communities, and empowered Los Angeles residents to improve their quality of life. These program areas include:
- Urban Forestry: We develop urban forestry solutions for agencies, other organizations, communities and neighborhoods that maximize the net environmental benefits of protecting and enhancing the urban forest.
- Parks Design and Build: We plan, design, and build community, neighborhood and river adjacent parks and trails for the purpose of restoring native habitat and creating passive recreation opportunities.
- Watershed Rehabilitation: We plan, design, and implement watershed improvements with the express purpose of restoring waterways and associated habitat, improving water quality, and increasing stormwater infiltration.
- Youth Environmental Stewardship: We educate and train at-risk youth and young adults in environmental disciplines. These programs are designed to build individual character and develop a community-based work force to help steward environmental awareness in resource challenged communities.
- Community Stewardship: We assist neighborhoods and communities in the development of resources, capacity, and network links that are "Bringing Nature Back" in disadvantaged communities.
Position Overview:
It is crucial that the candidate be a team player, but also comfortable working independently and efficiently on projects specifically tasked to this position. The Water Resources Project Manager must be able to think critically and find ways of applying available resources to accomplish goals.
It is important to focus on the "big picture" and how it can affect and promote environmental, economic, and social well-being for the communities of Los Angeles. NET works to create and use replicable models for community-based partnerships that solve complex environmental problems.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities of the Water Resources Project Manager/Engineer will include preparation of project scopes, budgets, and timelines; management of NET sub-contractors, including engineers, and other design and construction professionals; oversight and tracking of project budgets and related project administration; coordination of community involvement in concert with other NET staff and partners; communication with a diverse mix of public, private and non-profit partners; and assistance to clients with bidding, construction management, and other tasks as required.
The Water Resources Project Manager will be expected to immediately assume the responsibility for the management of the $3.1 Million Garvanza Park Stormwater Management Project, which includes a teaming arrangement with the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works. Project construction is anticipated shortly.
Qualifications:
- Must share values and vision of the organization;
- Candidate must have at least 3 years of comparable project management experience and excellent references;
- Candidate must have advanced training and/or prior work experience in construction management, engineering site design, environmental design, ecology and/or related fields;
- Candidate must be comfortable with AutoCad design and applications;
- It is preferred that the candidate have experience or familiarity with the municipal procurement processes and Los Angeles permitting requirements;
- Experience working with/for municipal or state government is a plus;
- Familiarity with Low-Impact Development and ‘Green Streets' is important;
- Familiarity with LEED standards or the Sustainable Sites Initiative is a plus;
- Demonstrated outstanding organizational skills along with strong oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills;
- Basic computer skills: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
- Ability to balance competing priorities and deadlines and to handle multiple tasks;
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues;
- Candidate must be a self-starter and work well independently, as well as accept supervision;
- Candidate must be reliable and flexible;
- A BS CE, PE or EIT preferred, and
- Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
