Clients include government agencies at all levels, corporations, real estate developers, colleges and universities, school districts, and other commercial and institutional organizations.

Position Overview:

Dewberry is currently seeking an exceptional candidate to serve as a water resources engineer for floodplain studies and related projects in our Fairfax, VA office. Candidates will provide technical assistance to FEMA Regional offices in hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and modeling and floodplain delineations using GIS-based Engineering and mapping tools. Candidates will also participate in disaster, emergency management, and mitigation planning and outreach activities, as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance for hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, using a variety of techniques and models (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS). Assigned studies may include levee failure analyses.
  • Prepare written reports, such as study narratives documenting floodplain studies.
  • Support other water resources, disaster, emergency management, and mitigation planning projects, as assigned.
  • Assist project managers in scoping projects and lead project development teams.
  • Train and mentor junior water resources Engineers.
  • Perform quality reviews of H&H studies performed by other Engineers or contractors.

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Civil Engineering (or related Engineering field), with emphasis in water resources.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hydrology and open channel hydraulics.
  • Knowledge/experience with ESRI Arc GIS and mapping software, version 9.0 or higher.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic MS Office software
  • Knowledge of models/software:
    - ESRi Arc GIS
    - ERDAS Imagine
    - HECRAS
    - HECHMS
    - FLO-2D
