Waste Reduction Outreach Specialist (AmeriCorps)

Position Overview

The Washington County Solid Waste & Recycling Program is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, independent and reliable person to increase waste reduction awareness throughout Washington County. The Waste Reduction Outreach Specialist will focus on the following topics:

• Recycling and food waste prevention education at multifamily communities
• General waste reduction education to the public at community events.
• Reuse and recycling events at multifamily communities.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support environmental stewardship, develop a variety of skills and interact with diverse populations including seniors, youth, and Spanish-speaking households.

Qualifications:

• Interest and experience in engaging the public via group presentations, door-to-door canvassing and at events
• Basic conversational English and Spanish skills.
• Detail oriented
• General knowledge of and passion for resource conservation
• Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Compensation and Benefits:

• $12,530 living allowance
• $5,730 education award
