Position Overview

Clean Water Action/Clean Water Fund seeks a 50% (FTE) assistant to help implement its ReThink Disposable campaign. The campaign focuses on reducing the use of single-use disposable products by engaging local government, business, and consumers in reducing trash generation at the source.

Clean Water Action is a national citizens' organization working for clean, safe and affordable water, prevention of health-threatening pollution, creation of environmentally-safe jobs and businesses, and empowerment of people to make democracy work. Clean Water Fund organizes strong grassroots groups, coalitions and campaigns to protect our environment, health, economic well-being and community quality of life.

Responsibilities 

  • Support advocacy at the state and local level to eliminate plastic pollution and promote reduction of waste at the source;
  • Assist with audits and evaluations of food businesses and institutions to reduce reliance on single-use food and beverage packaging;
  • Support public education initiatives to raise awareness about the solutions to the marine debris problem;
  • Develop content for social media, website, and newsletters; 
  • Provide research about the impacts of single-use products on the environment and public health;
  • Support fundraising activities;
  • Support volunteer activities; and
  • Perform other duties as directed by Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of water, waste and/or marine debris and plastics pollution a plus;
  • Able to communicate effectively with businesses and the public;
  • Excellent research and writing skills;
  • Experience working in public education and food service businesses a plus;
  • Experience using online communications and social media to engage the public;
  • Experience staffing public education events;
  • Well organized, detail oriented, and able to handle multiple responsibilities;
  • Productive, hardworking, and reliable, able to meet deadlines and complete assignments on time;
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint);
  • Proficiency in other languages desirable; and
  • Must have valid driver's license and be willing to drive by car to set up and staff events, including some lifting and transporting of materials.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
