~ GRID Alternatives is the country's largest nonprofit solar installer. We train and lead teams of volunteers and job trainees to install solar electric systems for low-income families. These installations enhance housing affordability by reducing energy costs for those who need the savings the most and expand economic opportunity for job seekers by providing hands-on training in the growing field of solar. ~
Position Overview
Our Outreach staff at GRID Alternatives is on the ground linking our services to low-income families. Their efforts are critical to our ability to bring solar to low-income communities, while providing jobs for our trainees, and revitalizing our communities.
Over the next two years, GRID Alternatives is positioned to bring solar to thousands of low-income families. We need an expert in large-scale outreach initiatives, who can mobilize local outreach leaders to increase enrollment in our program by 30% in 2016.
This person will report to our COO, manage a team of 3-4, provide guidance and leadership to ~40 outreach staff throughout the country and serve as a key member of our senior leadership team.
Office Location
Preference would be for this position to be located at GRID Alternatives' office in North Oakland, but working from any of our existing office locations would be possible. California locations include: Oakland, Los Angeles, San Diego, Fresno, Riverside, Sacramento, Atascadero, Chico, Willits and Salinas. Other locations include Denver, CO, Bronx, NY, and Washington, DC.
Responsibilities
The Work:
- Increase enrollment in our solar energy program by 30% in 2016. The successful person will do this by:
- Creating a strategy that outlines how we will meet our enrollment goals;
- Build relationships and buy-in with our regional executive and outreach staff to execute on that strategy;
- Support the unique needs of regional outreach staff by providing training materials, collecting and sharing best practices, and working with Regional and HQ leadership to develop and implement efficient Outreach related processes, tools and policies;
- Develop strategic partnerships with national organizations to drive in more leads;
- Lead development of effective client marketing collateral and messaging;
- Ensure processes and tools are in place to effectively track outreach efforts and identify which outreach strategies are working;
- Support regional Directors and Managers to develop effective, local outreach strategies;
- Travel to regional offices as needed to provide on-site training, support and troubleshooting for region-specific challenges;
- Facilitate monthly organization-wide Outreach Department calls; and
- Represent and be a champion for the needs of the Outreach Department and the interests of our clients within the Executive team.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this role:
- Has 5+ years of training and work experience in Outreach, Field Campaign Management, Sales, Marketing, Community Organizing or related fields.
- Has passion for and experience with renewable energy, affordable housing, and/or environment/environmental justice work.
- Has demonstrated success in not just outreach efforts, but has a track record of expanding base of clients, customers, members, voters, etc.
- Has created a large scale strategy and successfully executed on that strategy.
- Is creative. S/he knows how to find the easiest path to the achievable outcomes.
- Is an organizational leader who knows how to get results through others.
- Has excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Thrives in a hard-working, collaborative, informal, high-growth organization.
- Has strong analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Salesforce.com CRM database.
- Experience with Intacct.
- Experience creating effective messaging and marketing collateral.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience. Includes medical, dental, paid-time-off, and optional enrollment in 403b retirement plan.
