About the Team:

TransFair's Global Producer Services (GPS) division provides training and technical assistance to smallholder agricultural producers in Latin America, Asia, and Africa. The objective of these projects is to improve quality, build management capacity, and link producers to global supply chains. Launched in 2006, GPS currently has six long-term field projects and plans to launch at least an additional five projects in 2008.
GPS is headquartered in Oakland, CA with operations in Washington, DC and Nairobi, Kenya. The division has seven full-time employees in the U.S. and four long-term consultants in the field. GPS raises funding primarily from outside the supply chain and works in partnership with highly qualified implementing agencies.

About the Job:

TransFair USA is recruiting a highly qualified international development professional with entrepreneurial skills and the ability to grow a start-up operation. The Vice President reports directly to the CEO. This position is currently based in Washington DC. However, residents of the Oakland / SF Bay Area are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

Provide technical and intellectual direction and leadership for the division, especially related to strategy, operations, and business development
Develop and implement strategies to increase revenue and to expand the project portfolio
Supervise GPS senior staff to achieve performance objectives and to ensure contractual compliance on all field projects
Serve as principal liaison for GPS with implementing partners, corporate partners, donors, and other stakeholders

Requirements:

MBA, MA or MS in agricultural development, economics, or a related discipline
At least 10 years of experience in international development in the agriculture sector
At least 5 years of direct field implementation experience
A record of delivering measurable results in agricultural productivity, value addition, and exports
Successful fundraising experience in the public sector, especially with USAID, the World Bank and other bilateral and multilateral donors
Fluency in English and either Spanish or French
Ability to travel approximately 30% of time to international and domestic locations
