Position Overview: 

As a member of the executive team, this leader will lead the strategic development of RHA's program portfolio. S/he will evaluate and pursue the strategic and financial prospects of new and existing market opportunities and partnerships. S/he will direct the assessment of potential future markets and will be accountable for providing input on new programs/initiatives.

The VP Business Development will follow up on all partnership activity and oversee the tracking, documentation and status reporting of all collaborations along the business development pipeline. S/he will interact with existing corporate clients, facilitate communication, track funding cycles, and identify scope for enhancing existing business relationships.

The VP Business Development will lead the BD Team in the preparation of proposals. In addition, this role will provide leadership to the marketing function including the development and execution of a comprehensive corporate marketing and brand strategy, and overseeing the development of marketing materials.

Responsibilities:

Create and oversee business development strategies and action plans:

  • Maintain a high level of market awareness and respond instantly to time sensitive opportunities
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses on research/market data
  • Provide the organization with key market data and trends
  • Assess new markets and opportunities to build business plans which support new venture recommendations
  • Lead the Business Development Team in the identification of new markets and strategic approaches to entry
  • Evaluate new business opportunities against current program portfolio and resource capabilities
  • Translate the overall business development strategy into tactical, functional plans to ensure outcomes are achieved
  • Lead and manage the process of responding to RFPs, including building cross functional teams to facilitate RFP responses
  • Attend appropriate public, utility and/or energy efficiency meetings to maintain awareness of current trends and potential business opportunities

Relationship Management:

  • In conjunction with operations leaders and the CEO, cultivate existing business relationships to enhance and continue business growth

Oversee Marketing:

  • Oversee the positioning and marketing of RHA and the RHA brand with the public and relative to business relationships
  • Ensure strategic and tactical marketing plans are developed and implemented
  • Oversee the marketing function for RHA
  • Oversees all external public relations

Qualifications:  

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Must have a 4 year business, marketing or energy efficiency degree from a recognized university
  • MBA and/or a Masters in the Energy Efficiency discipline preferred

Experience:

  • Must have 5+ years as a business development and marketing executive
  • Must have 10+ years of broad and progressive experience in several of the following areas: new business development, proposal creation and leadership, marketing, strategic planning, relationship management. Preferably at least 5+ of these years have been with a Utility and/or Energy Efficiency organization.
  • Must possess a proven track record of growing a business with demonstrated expertise in strategy formulation, market research, new business growth and development
  • Must have a proven track record of building and cultivating client relationships with both government and private sector organizations
  • Preferred experience with community based and non-profit organizations

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must have knowledge of federal, state and local funding cycles and access processes
  • Must have knowledge of energy efficiency regulations and trends in both commercial and residential environments
  • Must be aware of events and actions at the regulatory levels which impact business growth
  • Must have an excellent understanding of how to reach the hard to reach communities
  • Possesses an excellent understanding of relationship management specifically within utility and government organizations
  • Must have an excellent understanding of public funding resources and streams through governments and agencies
  • Must have proven ability to lead and manage cross function and direct teams
  • Should possess a good knowledge of community based organizations and how they operate
  • Must have excellent leadership skills
  • Must have proven project management skills
  • Must have excellent strategy and planning skills
  • Must have excellent business acumen
