Produce Manager

What started out as a dream of a young couple wanting to start a health food store, has evolved into a full scale natural foods grocery and cafe. ~

Provisions is committed to selling only the highest quality organic products available. We support local organic farmers and our fruits and vegetables are always organic. The cafe serves breakfast and lunch along with baked goods, juices and smoothies. The market carries organic groceries, vitamins and supplements, personal care and beauty products, baby products, bees wax candles, chocolates, teas, gifts items, pet products and more.

Position Overview

We are seeking candidates for the position of Produce Manager. 

Responsibilities

Purchasing:

• Purchase organic produce following plan of store, prioritize merchandising plan and LOCAL varieties.
• Receive produce deliveries while following established receiving procedures.
• Streamline ordering so supply of on-hand produce meets demand, without over purchasing.
• Get credit from suppliers where applicable for returned, damaged and/or spoiled product. 
• Coordinate storage of all items before use or return. 
• Periodic price surveys of identified competitors.

Merchandising:

• Plan attractive produce displays, using color and seasonality to enhance.
• Ensure displays are replenished, rotated, and culled throughout the day.  
• Communicate quality standards for culling.
• Assist customers with produce questions and special orders.  Offer samples and suggestions when necessary.
• Set preparation and stocking guidelines for staff.

Department Maintenance:

• Maintain produce displays, prep and storage areas in a clean and orderly manner.
• Meet and exceed all store and Health Department standards for cleanliness and sanitation.
• Participate in inventory counts.  Conduct inventory as requested by General Manager.
• Maintain Department equipment in working order.  Immediately advise Store Management of any needed repairs.

Personnel:

• Assist with hiring procedure for department.
• Provide hands on training for all newly hired employees.
• Assist with performance evaluations.
• Organize department meetings.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by store management.
• Attend management team and store wide meetings.

Qualifications

• Years as an established produce manager with experience in hiring, training, directing and evaluating.
• Cheerful demeanor and great attitude.
• Ability to provide great customer service.
• Knowledge in organic growing practices.
• Great communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to meet multiple demands and ability to follow through on commitments.
