Position Overview

The County of San Luis Obispo Department of Public Works has an immediate opening for the position of Utility Coordinator.  The County is seeking an innovative and experienced individual who is committed to work as part of a team in delivering a broad range of energy-related projects at County facilities.  The position covers a wide range of duties, such as energy monitoring and reporting to researching and implementing programs/projects in the County's EnergyWise Plan.  Click here to view the The EnergyWise Plan.   

Responsibilities  

  • Coordination with County departments on planning, budgeting and implementing various energy projects;
  • Monitoring facility energy consumption and implementing programs/projects to reduce usage;
  • Communication with County departments on their energy consumption and implementation of energy saving measures;
  • Utility rate analysis; and
  • Developing a work environment which leads to innovation and a commitment to continuous improvement of staff and systems.

Qualifications 


The ideal candidate will have a knowledge of applicable legislation and standards, an energy management background and the ability to:
 

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a broad group of stakeholders;
  • Problem solve to meet the goals and objectives of the organization;
  • Work independently or in a team setting; and
  • Use latest technologies to collect data and make decisions. 

Minimum requirements for this position: 

  • Graduation from an accredited college with an Bachelor degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Business or other closely related field.
  • AND:  Three (3) years of recent (within the last 5 years) experience in the utility field. 
  • Experience with an emphasis on energy procurement, energy conservation or utility deregulation is highly desirable.
  • A Masters degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Business or other closely related field may substitute for 1 year of the required experience.    

Compensation: Salary is $72,779.20 - $88,483.20 Annually.
