Description
Wildlands CPR revives and protects wild places by promoting watershed restoration through road removal, preventing new road construction in wildlands, and stopping off-road vehicle abuse. Wildlands CPR is expanding our off-road vehicle program by hiring state coordinators in Montana and Utah to address travel planning on the ground.
Job Description:
The Utah State ORV Coordinator will work with grassroots groups throughout the state to address national forest off-road vehicle planning processes and ensure that those processes result in the most resource protective designations on the ground. The state coordinator will focus especially on keeping off-road vehicles out of roadless areas.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Work with grassroots groups throughout the state of Utah to coordinate conservationist, quiet recreationist and hunter responses to proposed travel plans
* Work with grassroots groups in UT to prioritize key travel planning processes for participation by non-motorized users
* Work with grassroots groups in UT to build and implement strong local campaigns for winning good travel planning on the ground
* Build broad, diverse support (local coalitions) for comprehensive recreational planning that limits off-road vehicle recreation
* Ensure that critical ground-truthing data is collected both to influence agency travel planning processes, and to prepare for possible litigation of bad plans (GIS)
* Work with grassroots groups to ensure that good on-the-ground policies and strategies are implemented in UT, and that good UT models are shared with other grassroots activists throughout the country.
* Directly engage with agency staff and decision makers, state and federal lawmakers (as appropriate), and media representatives, to expand decision-makers' and media understanding of appropriate recreational access on public lands.
Qualifications:
Applicant should have 3-5 years experience in grassroots community organizing and/or natural resource management issues; experience working with diverse stakeholders; understanding of federal land management policy; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong commitment to grassroots environmental work; knowledge/understanding of conservation biology; familiarity with the geography and politics of the region.
