Description

The Upper Crooked River Weed Management Area (UCRWMA) Field Assistant will be responsible for mapping weed populations and controlling weeds within the boundaries of the Weed Management Area.
Specifically, position will work on Bureau of Land Management and private lands to help the UCRWMA Coordinator map noxious weed populations, download Global Positioning System (GPS) data into Geographic Information System (GIS) software, and assist the Columbia Plateau Stewardship Director and Crook County Weed Supervisor with the control of non-native species. Position requires working as part of a team, as well as working alone.

A high school diploma or GED is required, plus additional relevant college course work in natural resource management and at least one field season of relevant work experience or no course work and two seasons working on a farm or ranch. Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation, non-native species control, and plant identification skills are preferred.

Applicants must be willing and able to hike 5 miles/day, obtain an Oregon herbicide applicator's license, and work outdoors under variable weather conditions. Applicants must provide their own transportation. This position is based near Prineville, Oregon.

The Upper Crooked River Weed Management Area Field Assistant is a non-exempt position, supervised by the Columbia Plateau Stewardship Director and UCRWMA Coordinator. The position begins May 6, 2002, and ends July 12, 2002. The UCRWMA Field Assistant will be paid $10.00 for 40 hours/week. Housing will not be provided.
