UK Media Relations Consultant

With headquarters in New York City, and offices worldwide, the Rainforest Alliance works with people whose livelihoods depend on the land, helping them transform the way they grow food, harvest wood and host travelers.

Request for Proposal:

The Rainforest Alliance is calling for proposals for a UK Media Relations Consultant (or agency) to help drive media coverage in targeted outlets, support media campaigns and overall help increase awareness in the UK on the mission and impacts of the Rainforest Alliance.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct virtual and in-person meetings with UK-based media to introduce relevant topics and experts; review and revise media list for the UK and establish key targets for RA and its leadership; 
• Identify opportunities in conferences and forums, introduction to internal RA experts
• Establish stronger presence and garner positive media coverage in the UK; support social media managers and monitor the Rainforest Alliance’s online presence in the UK;
• Develop UK-specific communication/marketing materials by adapting existing resources, in close consultation with RA colleagues in the United States and Amsterdam.
• Develop and manage press contact lists for the UK with a focus on London-based media.
• Design and implement a programme of targeted media outreach, focussing in particular on trade media, specialist consumer/food/drink/forestry and tourism media, as well as outreach to national environment and consumer affairs media in in the UK, achieving approximately six (6) articles in selected media; 
• Work proactively to secure Rainforest Alliance exposure in more general media coverage of corporate responsibility, ethical trade and sustainable development issues, including but not limited to directly contacting journalists, manage interviews; achieving approximately three (3) articles in selected media;  
• Manage both proactive and reactive media queries that come into the London office via internal colleagues or external stakeholders; coordinate with Senior Managers in timely response to media.
• Provide a rapid response function to counter any negative or inaccurate reporting of Rainforest Alliance and its programmes in all UK media; and
• Provide editorial oversight to grow the readership/followers of relevant social media platforms delivering an increase in line with the global targets as set on an annual basis.

Selection Criteria:

Consultant and/or agency must have recent and demonstrated success garnering positive media coverage for global NGO’s in the environmental/sustainability sector; must have established relationships with mainstream media in the UK, sustainability publications and influential online voice. Must be familiar with current conservation and environmental issues such as deforestation, climate change, food supply and social good.  

Note: Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom required.
