Better City (ABC) is a nonprofit membership organization that engages Boston's businesses
and institutional leaders in ensuring progress and tangible results on
transportation, land development, and environmental policies, projects and
initiatives. ~
 

A Better
City's Transportation Management Association (ABC TMA) is an independent,
consensus oriented, nonprofit organization made up of employers, institutions,
building owners, and public sector representatives working together to address
employee transportation issues and improve air quality and traffic in the
Boston area and the region.

Position Overview

We are looking for someone who is passionate
about advancing sustainability initiatives, especially with influencing
behavior change around commuter transportation. The intern will assist in our outreach efforts
and be able to organize logistics and attend our events.

Our preferred candidate is a current undergraduate/graduate student or recent graduate in marketing/communications, transportation planning, environmental studies or urban planning. 

Starting date is May 1, 2014, and the end date is to be determined, though a commitment for 3 months essential. The position is 25 hours per week to start with, and offers opportunities for growth.

Responsibilities

The TMA Intern shall be
responsible for the following activities:

  • Assist
    in organizing and attending events such as:
    transportation fairs, HR benefit fairs, fall walking series
  • Make
    phone calls and follow up with members and potential members to schedule events
    or meetings
  • Assist
    with program management activities including monthly mailings and answering
    questions from commuters about our programs or sending out email correspondence
    to members
  • Assist
    with administering surveys of participants in TMA programs and performing data
    manipulation
  • Other
    administrative duties as necessary

Desired Skills & Traits:

  • Adept
    at social marketing methods
  • Familiarity
    with Transportation Demand Management techniques
  • Previous
    experience working in community outreach or engagement
  • Interest
    in sustainable transportation

Compensation: Hourly
pay rate is commensurate with experience.
