Description

The Collaborative Labeling and Appliance Standards Program (CLASP) is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to serve as the primary international voice and resource for energy efficiency standards and labeling for appliance worldwide.  

In the fight against climate change, Energy Efficiency Standards & Labels (S&L) for appliances offer enormous carbon reduction potential and are an especially cost-effective policy option for conserving energy - standards can save consumers money, reduce power demand, and slash greenhouse gas emissions. 

CLASP provides best practice technical expertise on standards and labeling policies in order to achieve high energy and carbon reduction impacts.  CLASP organizes teams of local and international experts to provide technical support to governments and organizations working to develop energy efficiency standards and labeling policies.  

CLASP is headquartered in Washington, DC, with liaison offices and/or team members in China, India, the European Union, and Latin America.  

Position Overview: 

The Technology Steward will play a vital role in the design, implementation and ongoing management of CLASP's knowledge and collaboration technology suite.  The ideal candidate is passionate about how technology and knowledge management can transform the nonprofit world.  This person will assist in defining how CLASP uses technology to enhance its internal collaboration and communication as well as how it shares its expertise with its partners and constituents worldwide, including S&L technical and policy experts, members of government and industry, and nonprofit affiliates who are working to mitigate CO2 emissions through effective S&L programs.

Responsibilities:

Initial Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the deployment of the technical infrastructure for CLASP to facilitate internal collaboration, content management, and workflow as well as the development of a shared library and wiki-enabled knowledge base
  • Assist in the design of and contribute to the information architecture of CLASP's external web presence and community sites
  • Provide recommendations for and lead expansion of the organization's information and knowledge management taxonomy

Ongoing Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate all activities related to the capture, storing, access to and dissemination of CLASP reports, technical expertise, and its extensive document and technical libraries
  • Provide systematic training and ongoing support to CLASP internal and external users both in person and via video and screen capture tools
  • Work alongside CLASP staff and team members to identify and address specific gaps in knowledge transfer and communication
  • Expand CLASP's external network of experts and global partners into a global knowledge network supporting S&L initiatives
  • Serve as the key liaison between CLASP and its technology vendors and suppliers
  • Keep pulse with and address the evolving information and knowledge management needs of the organization over time
  • Lead the charge to address recurring maintenance of the knowledge and information management systems, keeping pace with emerging technologies and knowledge management practices.

The Technology Steward will report directly to CLASP's Chief Operating Officer, and will work collaboratively with the entire CLASP team, located both domestically and internationally, in-person and remotely. Some travel to CLASP's liaison offices in Beijing, New Delhi, and Brussels may be required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated experience in Web content management, Internet and intranet best practices, and online community management
  • Track record of participation and/or strong desire to participate in communities of practice related to knowledge management, communities of practice, and technologies for nonprofits
  • Proficiency in using web 2.0 technologies, including tagging and social bookmarking, blogs, wikis, RSS, discussion forums and community software, and the ability to be a change agent for these technologies
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a nonprofit context
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with proven ability to work collaboratively and in a multi-cultural, multi-country environment
  • Oral and written communication skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite of products
  • A flexible team player who also works well independently with excellent time management skills and an ability to multi-task effectively
  • Bi- or multi-lingual preferred

Compensation:  The expected start date for this position is June 2010.  The position will be located in Washington, DC.  International travel may be required. CLASP offers an excellent benefits package and a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience.
