Galileo Project, LLC provides project management assistance and coordination (PMAC) to federal, state, and local agencies on environmental permitting and planning projects. These projects include renewable energy, transmission, pipelines, and planning efforts among others.

Position Overview

Galileo is looking for a mid-level to senior-level lead Technical Writer / Editor to assist in the preparation of technical environmental documents as well as written marketing and proposal products. As nearly all of our work involves a written product, editors are the “gatekeepers” that keep our business moving. Qualified candidates will have an excellent grasp of English grammar and spelling, exceptional editing and proofreading abilities, plus an ability to juggle multiple deadlines.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Review and edit a wide variety of technical environmental reports and tables for correctness, completeness, organization, clarity, consistency, grammar, and adherence to Galileo, client and/or agency style guidelines.
  • Update and manage Galileo styles and formats for all internal and external written documents.
  • Assist with content for company proposals.
  • Maintain Galileo marketing materials, including staff resumes, company statements of qualification, etc.
  • Ensure consistency and the highest quality in all written work products, including proposals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in various work locations across the country.
  • Work quickly under tight deadlines while maintaining an appropriate level of quality.
  • Communicate efficiently and effectively with project managers and authors to resolve content questions, changes in the schedule, and budget constraints.
  • Cultivate Galileo’s best practices for staff with team trainings.
  • Create content for printed and digital meeting and event materials, including public outreach materials, postcards, informational meeting posters, newsletters, and newspaper advertisements.
  • Maintain flexibility to adjust to changing project requirements.
  • Collaborate with the entire project team to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Manage clerical staff and provide backup office administration.
  • You may also be asked to assist with additional project duties such as the production of meeting notes.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Preferred bachelor’s degree or higher in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Journalism, or similar
    OR
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental field AND a Technical Writing Certificate
    OR
  • Minimum of high school diploma AND five (5) years of related experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (certification a plus)
  • Experience in Adobe Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) (certification a plus)
  • Experience with SharePoint/Office 365 is preferred
  • Experience with customer service is essential

Skills and Specifications:                                     

  • Mastery of English grammar and composition is mandatory.
  • Technical knowledge of environmental consulting, biological sciences, and/or cultural resources is a plus.
  • Ability to translate technical jargon into plain, concise language.
  • Superior planning and organizational skills
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to represent the company in a professional manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbally) with all levels of management
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Ability to balance the details of multiple, concurrent projects within deadlines
  • Flexibility and adaptability to different projects and management styles
  • Graphic design and marketing/proposal development are a plus.

Salary and Wages

  • Position starts at $21 per hour and may be adjusted based on work history and demonstrable skill set.
